It was the early 80's when Tony Bish started his journey with wine. He didn't have much money at the time, but he went skiing at Mount Hutt with what little he did have. Here, the first vintage with Corbans in Gisborne was a pragmatic start to what has become a forty-year passionate career. Six years later, Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in oenology. At that stage, Tony's new knowledge and experience was already called upon. In 1986, together with the Mason brothers, he founded Sacred Hill Wines in Hawkes's Bay. Tony makes a conscious choice to continue only with the Chardonnay grape. He and Karryn launched Tony Bish Wines in 2013, and they now sell four chardonnay styles directly to other chardonnay lovers across the country and around the world. Tony's creative spirit was unleashed in 2013, after a trip to South America, where he made wine that was produced in egg-shaped tanks. With some ingenuity and local know-how from Hastings-based NZ Tanks, Tony built the first concrete egg fermenters in New Zealand.
