The Fuligni family lived in the Tuscan Maremma at the beginning of the 20th century. To escape the malaria, the family moved to Montalcino and in 1923 bought the Cottimelli estate from Gontrano Biondi Santi, named after the 16th-century monastery that stood there. This is the classic zone where Brunello has always been made. Fuligni also bought an 18th century palazzo in the center of Montalcino with beautiful vaulted cellars where wines are still aged today. In 1971, after the death of her father, Maria Flora Fuligni took over the family estate and changed course.

He bought 100 hectares of land, of which 10 hectares are planted in vineyards and is located in an almost continuous strip on the eastern side of Montalcino, where historically Brunello's most authentic production originated. The vines, which extend over ten hectares, are mainly located in Cottimelli at altitudes ranging from 380 to 450 meters above sea level. Here the land, which is mostly oriented towards the east, belongs entirely to the geological formation of Santa Fiora (marl) of Eocene origin and consists of mostly rocky terrain. The lion of San Marco on the label betrays the Venetian origin of the Fuligni family. Fuligni has bought another small vineyard in the south of 2 hectares. The canes were planted around the year 2,000, with a planting density between 3,300 and 5,000 canes per ha. About 1 bottle of wine is produced per stick. The harvest is done manually and involves the personal participation of the owners with often repeated walks between the rows of vines to ensure a rigorous selection of grapes. The different vineyards of Fuligni, S. Giovanni, Il Piano, Ginestreto and La Bandita are harvested separately according to their type of land and exposure, then brought together respecting the type of wine they become (Brunello, Brunello Reserve , Rosso DOC ).

Fuligni - Giannikos Winery
