Château Gruaud-Larose is a wine estate in Bordeaux and a second cru in the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. It is located in the village of Saint-Julien. For a long time it was one of the most important chateaux of the village, overshadowed only by the - originally undivided - Léoville. This cru, located behind Ch. Branaire Ducru and next to Ch. Lagrange, enjoys a wonderful terroir of rock deposits (from the Gironde, 700,000 years ago). It has belonged to the Merlaut family since 1997 and in recent years the wines have received very high ratings without exception and their Gruaud-Larose is above all a super feminine, refined and delicate, but beautifully concentrated St. Julien. The vineyards are (or are in conversion) to organic wine cultivation.

Gruaud-Larose has a world-class vineyard where tradition consolidates the modernity of current techniques and experience with new viticultural innovation. The concept of terroir connects geology and climate. The greatest concentration of Grand Cru wines is in the Medoc, an area that benefits from a microclimate particularly favorable to the expression of the vine. The soil naturally limits water retention and the summer period, very hot and dry from July to September, is decisive for good ripening, good ripeness and satisfactory transfer between the root system and the grape. East and west winds dry the grapes to prevent them from decaying. Every year, the sky plays a decisive role in winemaking. Their influence on the wine's success is different every year; no terroir, man or technique can change the part they play. Family Gruaud Larose has always tried to give value to the role of man in the creation of his elixir; both for his work and for the link with the vineyard. Since its foundation, in 1725, four families have succeeded each other at the head of Gruaud Larose: the Gruaud and Larose families, the Balguerie and Sarget families, the Cordier family and the Merlaut family.
