Château Pré la Lande - Giannikos Winery

Château Pré la Lande is located in the Appelation AOC Sainte-Foy Bordeaux. The wines they produce are certified organic, Demeter and vegan and in addition to an organic conventional wine, they also make a very nice red wine that is made entirely on 450 l terracotta amphorae from Tuscany. is ripened. The 22 hectare site, including 14 hectares of vineyards in one piece, is located on the slopes of a hill overlooking the valley of the Dordogne. The chateau is located between Bergerac and Bordeaux.

The word "lande" is said to come from the Celtic term "landa" which refers to poor and uncivilized lands where mainly heather grows. This difficult soil favors vines and yields only a few, but high-quality grapes. One of the most famous terroirs is Lalande de Pomerol. Conditions are optimal to produce a good wine when, as at Château Pré la Lande, the land is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the Vallée de la Dordogne.

The Château Pré la Lande has been producing wine since 1860 from the slope of a hill at 120 meters, one of the peaks in Gironde. The natural slopes guarantee good drainage and the proximity of the Dordogne river guarantees a mild climate. The Sainte-Foy Bordeaux designation, renamed Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux in 2016, is one of the oldest in Gironde with a decree published in 1937.  The soil of Château Pré la Lande is exclusively a thin layer of clay with limestone underneath, sometimes visible on the surface, guaranteeing a wine that combines elegance with a strong character.

All wines are bottled with little or no filtration. The absolute minimum of sulphite is added to guarantee the stability of the wine. The total amount of SO2 is even significantly lower than the allowed amounts for organic wines. The bottles are always sealed with non-chlorine corks and the bottle supplier commits to using 95% recycled glass. The cardboard supplier for the boxes takes an ecological approach by using 75% recycled paper and biodegradable inks.

Giannikos Winery bezit 8 ha wijnstokken op twee locaties, één in Korinthe rond de wijnmakerij en de andere in Mycene, nabij de beroemde archeologische vindplaats en geboorteplaats van de Griekse wijnbouw bijna 4000 jaar geleden. Beide wijngaarden worden strikt biologisch geteeld omdat men ervan overtuigd is dat alleen natuurlijk geteelde wijnstokken gezonde druiven kunnen produceren die de basis vormen van hun kwaliteitswijnen. Een ander belangrijk aspect is de invloed van de zee op het microklimaat. De verkoelende winden zorgen samen met de mediterrane zon en de bodem voor de beste omstandigheden en zijn de redenen dat Giannikos Winery internationaal inmiddels al zeer gewild en bekend is maar gezien de kleine productie. Griekenland heeft een rijk erfgoed van inheemse druivensoorten en bij Giannikos Winery heeft men als filosofie om de traditie en nieuwe technologie te verenigen. Daarom teelt men biologisch en oogsten en snoeien men zorgvuldig met de hand. In de wijnmakerij gebruiken ze moderne stalen tanks, ultramoderne machines en Franse eiken vaten van geselecteerde fabrikanten.
