Cabernet Cortis is a German red grape variety. This strain was bred by Norbert Becker in 1982. He did this at the Freiburg Research Institute in Baden-Württemberg. The Cabernet Cortis is a cross between the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Solaris. This grape variety can withstand a low-light environment. The vines have leaves that resemble Cabernet Sauvignon leaves. The leaves are medium in size, strongly green, deeply incised, and five-fingered. The grapes themselves are also average in size. The grapes are ripe about mid-October. The variety is resistant to downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis.
What does wine from the Cabernet Cortis grape taste like?
Fully ripe grapes give an intense Cabernet wine with deep red/purple color. Taste of freshly ground pepper, cassis and ripe elderberries. The tannins in the Cabernet Cortis make it an ideal grape for a long maturation in wood or in the bottle.
