Cachapoal, together with Colchagua Valley, falls under the Rapel sub-region. Cachapoal is located in the Central VI region of Chile (Region de Valle Central), and has developed into one of the better regions for growing blue grape varieties. Areas in Chile are divided into Costa, Entre Cordilleras and Andes. Millahue Valley (called 'place of gold' by indigenous people) falls under Entre Cordilleras and is located at the end of the Cachapoal Valley, more than an hour and a half drive south of Santiago, on the other side of the famous Clos Apalta in Colchagua Valley. The Cachapoal Valley takes its name from the Río Cachapoal, which flows from the Andes to the sea. There was originally little wine growing in this part of the valley

FACT: Colchagua Valley is best known for Viña Vik, which is one of the absolute worldwide to. Viña Vik is working on getting its own DO Millahue off the ground within the Colchagua Valley region. The hilly landscape, the different exposures of the vineyards and 12 different soil types make high-quality wine growing possible here. At night it cools down sufficiently and there is enough heat and sun to optimally ripen varieties such as carmenère and cabernet sauvignon.
