Riesling
Riesling: a versatile and aromatic white grape variety
Riesling is a white grape variety that is widely cultivated in the French Alsace region and large parts of Germany. It is the most versatile grape variety known. When properly cultivated and planted in the right soil, Riesling produces some of the finest wines on the planet. Riesling wine is renowned for its aromatic intensity, high acidity, minerality, and finesse.
What does Riesling taste like?
Riesling wine is highly aromatic, light, and elegant, with a high acidity that is often balanced by a pleasant sweetness. Most Riesling wines are dry, but there are also excellent sweet variations: from the slightly sweet Kabinett and Spätlese to the botrytis-affected Auslese, Beerenauslese, and Trockenbeerenauslese. Characteristic aromas include lime, green apple, and jasmine. However, the signature aroma that brings a smile to the face of many Riesling fans is petrol.
