Quoin Rock has deep, historical roots, but fate, passion, energy and vision have transformed the ancient wine estate. Under the supervision of the Gaiduk family, 2012 marked a new era. The family invested not only in the restoration of the 200 ha estate, but in a future where visitors and guests are captivated by their experience.

As you approach the estate on a winding treetop road in the Knorhoek Valley, you're there! With the Simonsberg Mountains and acres of vineyards reshaping both your view and the view, yet, the estate keeps its full story a secret. It's a magical step-by-step revelation that changes with the seasons and time of day. In the months filled with the promise of summer, the driveway is an extended wall of pale pink roses, the ancient variety enjoyed in the Stellenbosch heat. And there are more varieties that color against the greens of the vineyard. Pink, cerise, scarlet, white, lilac, apricot and butter yellow... the passion of the family patriarch Vitaly Gaiduk for the rose - second only to exceptional wine - is evident everywhere. It's one of your first visual gifts upon arrival at Quoin Rock!

Quoin mainly produces Terroir wines. in other words almost all the work takes place mainly in the vineyard and the unique terroir. The wines offer a wide range of well-balanced, complex flavors that generate even more harmonics over time. good wine. Then it is the turn of the winemaker to create superior, well-balanced wines with complex flavors through a combination of natural alchemy and no chemistry. The Quoin Rock and Namysto wines are all gems.

Winemaker Schalk Opperman made the switch in 2020 to Quoin Rock, one of the best wine estates in Stellenbosch. Nestled in the foothills of the Simonsberg outside Stellenbosch, Quoin Rock Wine Estate was a natural choice for a winemaker of Opperman's caliber. Opperman was drawn to Quoin Rock's wine philosophy, infrastructure, resources and willingness to expand.
Opperman's passion for wine began at school, where he first began studying "the nectar of the Gods". At the end of 2005, he obtained his BSc degree in Viticulture and Oenology from Stellenbosch University. His journey through the wine world took him to some of South Africa's top producers and best wine farms. He also went further afield, to the well-known Sonoma wine region in California and Bordeaux in France, where he further developed his passion for Bordeaux varietals.

Opperman: "Terroir is known to play a major role in winemaking and the wines from this area are recognized worldwide, as proven once again by the recent 96/100 score at the International Wine and Spirits Competition for the 2015 Quoin Rock Red Blend. The team is energetic and dynamic with a great passion and like me they want to achieve great things and make this the best winery in Stellenbosch. You can't make good wine from bad grapes," says Opperman. High-quality grapes from the best vineyards allow the winemaker to create magic in the cellar. "That's my mission," Schalk said.
