Poggio Scalette is located in the heart of Greve in Chianti. The hills surrounding the Greve Valley are undeniably one of the best locations in Italy for growing wine and olives. The domain has Fontodi as a famous neighbor. The combination of terroir and location in relation to the sun contribute to the superb quality of these wines. Greve in Chianti is named after a river that flows through this village and rises in a small village in the hills. It is also one of the most important historical centers of the Chianti Classico region.

Poggio Scalette itself takes its name from the landscape, which mainly consists of stone walls that support the terraced structure on which the vineyards are planted. From a distance it therefore seems as if it is possible to climb the hills around Greve via a staircase. The domain was left to its own devices after the death of the previous owners until Vittorio Fiore, one of the most famous winemakers from Italy, discovered the vineyard together with his wife Adriana in 1991. In 1996 Vittorio managed to grow 42 acres of land. so that he could slightly expand the domain to a total of about 18 hectares.
In addition, it was soon discovered that the domain's first planted vineyards, Il Carbonaione, date back to the post-WWII period, meaning that many of these vines are over 70 years old.

Today, the domain is run by Vittorio and his son Jurij, who in turn is also passionate about winemaking, and together they manage a production of about 30,000 to 35,000 bottles of Il Carbonaione in their small but cozy Azienda to produce.
