Cariñena Blanca is finally considered a grape to be allowed by the Priorat appellation thanks to the Nin-Ortiz family. Who produce their Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca with the obsession to have a white Priorat that retains good acidity but is less 'heavy' than the average white Grenache wines.

The grape, Cariñena, is named after the city of the same name and is situated southwest of the capital Zaragoza. Cariñena also gave its name to the grape that the French call Carignan and is called Mazuelo in the rest of northern Spain. The vineyards are located in 14 different municipalities at an altitude between 400 and 800 meters.
