Viura - 97

The Viura is a white grape variety of origin Spanish, which is mainly grown there and to a lesser extent in France. It is a cross between the Heben and the Brustiano Faux in Spain on 42,000 hectares in the Rioja region in the northeast, and in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France on 3,800 hectares.

Everything about the Viura grape

Viura is a white wine grape used in the north and east of Spain, in the famous Rioja region, and in the south of France, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It is used for still, sparkling, but also sweet and dry wines, making it a very versatile grape. This grape is also called the Macabeo grape.

Wines from the Viura grape

Viura is the main ingredient in white Rioja wine. It is used in almost every wine region of Catalunya. A notable example of this is sparkling wine, such as cava: here the grape is blended with Xarel-Lo and Parellada.

These well-known wineries also use this grape:

Aromas in the Viura grape

These wines usually have an aromatic, fresh and floral taste when aged in stainless steel after being harvested early. They can develop a heavier, honeyed and nutty flavor after a later harvest and aging in an oak barrel.

Wine and food: Viura wine

Macabeo wines go well with fruity salads and grilled shrimp. Due to their fresher taste, young viura wines go well with Asian dishes such as noodle bowls. If you have an aged wine, it goes well with roasted meats and various resinous herbs.
