Kloovenburg Estate is located in the Riebeek Valley in the Swartland region. The foothills of the Riebeekberg, with their schist soils, form the ideal substrate for growing the best quality grapes. There were vines here as early as the mid-18th century, but it was only with the Du Toit family that the grapes were transformed into quality wines here. In 1998 Pieter Du Toit made his first Shiraz. The success of this was the deciding factor in renovating the cellar and transforming it into a brand new winery.

With the arrival of winemaker Jolandie Fouché, it became even clearer that Kloovenburg can be counted among the better wineries in South Africa. She started here at the end of 2014, after having worked for Saronsberg in Tulbagh for 4 years. Jolandie Fouché: 'I grew up in Swartland, so I have a good understanding of the culture and climate that I want to reflect in my wines. My philosophy is simple: I believe that good wines start in the vineyard and, as with everything in life, balance is the key to success.”

The Kloovenburg now belongs to the best 5% of all wines in the world according to the opinion of the consumers on Vivino and also Platter and Tim Atkins (the specialists on African wines) rate the wines of Kloovenburg very highly.
