Il Carpino

Winery Il Carpino is located in San Floriano del Collio, a village on the border with neighboring Slovenia. This small family winery owns 17 hectares of vineyard in Fruili. In 1970, Silvio Sosol quit his work as a greengrocer to devote himself to working in the countryside. He bought a few acres of land and started growing grapes. Wines have been produced under their own label since 1987. The family takes great pride in mastering every stage of wine making. They consider themselves representatives and custodians of the Friuli terroir, and take this task and responsibility very seriously.

Each wine is the final piece of a puzzle, the final step of a process that begins in the vineyard and ends in the bottle. It should tell the expression the area of origin as best as possible. The Il Carpino philosophy is based on respect for nature and for the character of the landscape. These elements are interdependent and therefore they work exclusively organically. The soil consists of clay and “ponca”, a clay-rich marl alternating with sand-lime stone; together they give a lively, mineral character to the wines. The vine density per hectare is very limited in order to obtain a maximum quality of the wines.

The Carpino line consists of limited production wines obtained from selected vineyards. The aging of red and white wines takes place exclusively on French and Slovenian oak and produces wines with a long aging potential. The “Vigna Runc” line consists entirely of fresh and fruity wines that are fermented in stainless steel tanks.
