The wine village of Rully no longer has a cooperative, so far no 'caveau collective'. For a Rully you will therefore have to turn to a domain, to one of the three cooperatives in the south of the Côte Chalonnaise or to La Maison des Vins in Chalon-sur-Saône.

According to legend, Rully got its name from a wealthy Roman named Rubilius. Here he built a villa and the village was born. Today, Rully is an appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise region of Burgundy with 343 hectares (847 acres) planted with both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both still and sparkling wines are produced. Chardonnay takes the lead with 70 percent planted and Pinot Noir makes up the difference. The Premier Cru wines are generally cask fermented and aged in more new oak than the Village wines - they are often lemon colored with green hues and have great finesse with subtle white floral aromas, citrus and stone fruit and can be round and bold on the palate with excellent acidity. According to Jancis Robinson, "Premier Cru" is defined as "wine clearly superior to village wine", but not on par with the large Grand Cru sites producing limited, expensive, cult-level wines. In Rully, 29 percent of the vineyards are designated as Premier Cru.

Rully AC belongs to the sub-region "Côte Chalonnaise" which is located south of the prestigious Burgundian villages such as Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne Montrachet. Famous for its fresh elegant whites, Rully also offers great fruity and refreshing reds.
