Montrachet Grand Cru

The most rare and expensive wines in the world bear the name "Montrachet Grand Cru". This Grand Cru vineyard, also called "Le Montrachet", is located on the south side of the Côte de Beaune. Like most of Burgundy's Grands Crus, the vineyards are planted on the outstanding mid-slope of the Mont-Rachet hill, where the forest above protects the vines from wind and hail. The vineyard, which is about 20 hectares in size, extends over two villages - Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet - with the border between the two towns bisecting Le Montrachet almost equally. Only one glorious white grape is authorized: Chardonnay - and the wines produced are considered the purest expression of the Chardonnay grape on earth. Expect exotic fruit flavors, spice and butter in a balanced wine with just enough acidity and body to evoke power without making the mistake of being too heavy. There are no bargains here and there is a long waiting list to get your hands on these wines.
