Bodegas Muga, a family business founded in 1932, is known for its traditionally made Riojas. They mainly make red, something white, rosé and a cava. Muga now owns 248 hectares of vineyard in the mountainous part of Rioja Alta. The average age of the sticks is 25 years. In addition, there are 148 hectares of vineyards owned by farmers under contract. At least 80% is sold in Spain, the rest is export. Muga is internationally counted among the bodegas that still make Riojas in a very traditional way and very successfully. Four own tonneliers make and repair the more than 20,000 barrels for the classic aging on French and American oak. Bodegas Muga works practically organically in the vineyard and only fertilizes with homemade compost from prunings and sheep manure. Brothers Manuel and Isaac Muga run this wonderful family business, assisted by their sons Jorge (vineyard + oenologist), Isaac jr. (oenologist), Manuel jr. and Juan (sales).
