Argiano

At the top of a beautiful hill southwest of Montalcino is the historic site where the wise men searched for Ara Jani, the legendary altar of the Roman god Janus. The stately Villa di Argiano was built in the Renaissance by the noble Pecci family from Siena. The estate passed into the hands of Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano in 1992, who resold it to a Brazilian investment company in 2013. The authentic cellars are still in use and contain a real vinotheque of old Brunello's. Just outside the old domain, surrounded by 48 hectares of vineyards, are the more modern bottling and storage facilities.

In addition to traditional wines such as the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, sangiovese shows itself from a completely different angle in the wine 'Suolo', a very modern interpretation of sangiovese. Cabernet sauvignon, syrah and merlot meet in equal parts in 'Solengo', a modern and concentrated wood-aged IGP. Argiano also has a nice enoteca where you can still buy an old vintage.
