Rood - Entre-Deux-Mers
A Guide to the Entre-Deux-Mers Region
Entre-Deux-Mers translates to “between two seas” but it’s a misleading name. This large triangle of comely land east of Bordeaux actually lies between the Dordogne and Garonne river tributaries of the Garonne estuary--hardly two seas. Alas.
Only dry white wines from this region, primarily Sauvignon Blanc with some Semillon and Muscadelle may use the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation. The reds, mostly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, must content themselves with “Bordeaux AC” or, at best, “Bordeaux Superieur,” on a label.
