Faro
DOC Faro is een appellatie in het uiterste noordoosten van Sicilië. Deze herkomstbenaming was zo goed als uitgestorven toen in 1985 Salvatore Geraci, eigenaar van Azienda Agricola Palari, het domein overkocht met de ambitie om de faam van Faro opnieuw wereldwijd te laten klinken. Hij was de grote herbronner van deze appellatie, die gebaseerd is op nerelloblends. Salvatore investeerde en raakte daarbij geïntrigeerd door de Nerello-druif. De
Faro is een zeldzaam elegante maar tanninerijke wijn, die op de bodem na heel wat raakpunten heeft met de Etna. Geraci herstructureerde niet enkel zijn Faro-wijngaarden, maar kocht ook wijngaarden op de Etna.
