How is rosé made?
First things first, how is rosé made? Mixing red wine and white wine? No, this is not quite right :)
Rosé is made from blue grape varieties. The skins of the blue grapes contain dye. If the skins of the grapes ferment briefly with the juice, you get rosé! Variations are of course possible, the skins can also be pressed to remove the colorant from the skins and sometimes there is a combination with white grapes.
In Europe it is not allowed to mix red wine and white wine in order to obtain the rose color. There is 1 special exception, and that is Champagne. Here it is allowed to add a small amount of red wine to the white champagne.
Which wines are in the rosé tasting box?
There are a total of 6 dry rose wines in the tasting box. Each wine comes from a different country or region. This makes for a nice variation. In this order it is also recommended to drink the wines.
1. Domaines Paul Mas Claude Val Rosé
The first wine from the tasting box comes from the Languedoc-Rousillon, France.
This rosé is made from the typical Provence rose grapes, namely Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah. The grapes are fermented separately at a controlled temperature of 17 degrees. The wine then matures on the yeast cells ('sur lie') with regular batonnage (stirring of the yeast cells) to make the wine softer and rounder. This takes place in cement barrels for 40 days.
In the glass, the Claude Vale has a very light pink color. In the nose fresh notes of red cherries, toffee, flowers and light notes of candied fruit. In the mouth, the Claude Val has a fruity character with soft flavors of cherries, strawberry and light toffee, but also a delicious acidity that makes the wine fresh and fresh.
2. San Marzano Il Pumo Rosato Salento
The second wine for the rosé tasting comes from Puglia, Italy. This wine is 100% made from the Negroamaro grape.
The vineyards are located about 100 meters above sea level. The soil consists of stony, calcareous poor soils and this explains the mineral touch in the wine.
The Il Pumo Rosato has fresh fruity aromas with notes of cherry, rose and pomegranate. Firm body, fresh and balanced in the mouth. This is a delicious fresh, fruity wine with a very civilized alcohol percentage of 12.5%
3. Gil Family Estates Honoro Vera Rosé
The third wine comes from Murcia, Spain.
This Gil Family Estates Honoro Vera is a beautiful, light salmon-colored rosé with hints of watermelon rind on the nose. The palate is clear and fresh with notes of red fruits and berries including strawberry, cherry and finishes again with watermelon. A fresh Rosé with a mineral edge and a long, dry finish.
4. Sierra Cantabria Rosé
The Sierra Cantabria comes from Rioja, Spain.
The Sierra Cantabria is a delicious rosé with an exquisite freshness, intensity and fruitiness. It offers perfect balance and acidity. In the glass this is almost a Provence rose and very light salmon colored but has great aromatic notes of super fresh red fruits such as raspberry, a little strawberry, blueberry and sour red cherry, but we also smell some spiciness and mineral notes.
In the mouth, the Sierra Cantabria rosé is very elegant and balanced. The wine is fruity but with good acidity and is nice and dry. An ideal wine that does not bore and continues to surprise.
5. CEPA 21 HITO Rosé
The HITO rosé comes from the Ribera del Duero.
The grapes for this great rosé have only been soaked for a few hours at a low temperature. The fermentation is between 12 and 15 degrees and was then aged for 3 months on its lees ( sur lie ).
The wine has a very light pink color like a Provence rosé but with the class of the Tempranillo grape which provides more complexity. On the nose, the Hito rose is intense, fresh and fresh with ripe red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries, which later evolve into more flowers with more complex notes. The mouthfeel is very fresh and silky with balanced acidity. The finish is long and pleasant and this is one of the best rosés in its price range.
6. Château Camparnaud Art Collection Rosé
Then we arrive at the last wine from the tasting box. This is a beautiful rosé from the Côtes de Provence.
The grapes come from the Côtes de Provence (AOP) vineyards, which are also ecologically certified. The vines are on average between 15 and 30 years old and they are one of the few that uses a tri-optique so that only the best grapes make it into the selection.
The Château Camparnaud ART COLLECTION has a light pink color. The main focus is on its aromatic profile and the wine blows out of the glass with beautiful notes of fresh red spring fruit and great freshness. Freshness in the mouth, friendly and good in everything so dry, but not bone dry, nice and fresh, nice and fruity, no alcohol bomb (12.5%) as befits a good Provence rosé.
Besides all this, the appearance is very nice. The label was designed by the internationally awarded vinpressionist Hubrecht Duijker. With 118 wine books to his name and 3 million copies sold worldwide, he has written more books on wine than anyone else in the world.
