Highland Park Valkyrie

Valkyrie is the first in Highland Park's Viking Legend series in collaboration with Danish designer Jim Lyngvild, who can trace his ancestry back to Viking times. The Valkyrie is made with about 50% fully tufted malt (Highland Park's peated malt is usually mixed with un peated malt in a 1: 4 ratio), but of course with Highland Park it means Orcadian peat and classic heather smoke. This edition offers a smoky Highland Park experience than what we are used to, but the smoke is still in good balance. Highland Park Valkyrie received a score of 99 points in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, making it an "extraordinary ultimate recommendation". Nose: Chocolate and some nutmeg from the bat before the smoke develops, balanced by dried apricot, plum and increasingly spicy orange. Taste: Plump dried fruits are complemented by vanilla, dried apple and smoke waves and wood herbs. Finish: Licorice and more fruit, plus a return of some chocolatey notes.
