In 1973, the famous Chateau Mouton Rothschild was the only chateau to date that was promoted to a higher category and joined the elite of the Premiers Grand Crus. The wines of Baroness Philipine de Rothschild are known for the changing label per harvest, each time featuring an image by a different artist. The character of the wine is characterized by red berries and cedar wood with an increase of more than 10% Merlot in the last decade. Château Mouton-Rothschild is world famous. It is located in Bordeaux in Pauillac, on the border with Saint-Estèphe. It is next to another famous winery: Château Lafite-Rothschild. The winery covers 74 hectares and a lot of cabernet sauvignon, but also merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot are added. Especially when fully ripe, the Mouton-Rothschild can be recognized by its bouquet, pure cabernet sauvignon.
This unique box contains 3 bottles of vintage 2004, 2014 and 2017 coming from the private collection of the Chateau. Click on the links next to the image with all the integral assessment of the wine press over the different vintages.

The vineyards of Château Mouton Rothschild are located northwest of Bordeaux, on the edge of the Medoc. Dating back to Roman times, the Medoc vineyard now covers approximately 16,500 hectares. The vines are planted on a narrow strip of land 80 km long and 5 to 10 km wide, close to the river, which irrigates the soil in depth and moderates temperature differences. Bordering the northern boundary of the forest of Les Landes, the Medoc benefits from the softness of the maritime climate while protecting it from the excesses.
History
In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought the Château Brane-Mouton estate at auction because he wanted to serve his own wine to his prestigious guests. The estate was located in Pauillac, in the heart of the Médoc, and would henceforth also bear its name: Château Mouton Rothschild.
In 1922, the estate was taken over by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the great-grandson of Baron Nathaniel. 2 years later, he insists that all wine, previously delivered in tons to wine merchants in Bordeaux, be bottled in the castle in the future. This decision meant that more storage space was needed. Therefore, the spectacular 100-meter-long Grand Chai (Great Barrel Hall), designed by the architect Charles Siclis, was built in 1926. In 1962, a museum was even opened on the estate.
After a long battle by Baron Philippe, Château Mouton Rothschild finally achieved the coveted status of Premier Cru Classé in 1973, of which they were unfairly robbed in the classification of 1855. After a decree signed by Jacques Chirac, then Minister of Agriculture, it became officially confirmed.
Philippe's daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, took over her father's estate and continued to modernize this beautiful family business over the years. She has transferred her excellent dedication and method to her 3 children, Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais who continue to run the estates with the same ambition.
