Château Le Sèpe Rouge en Blanc in Geschenkendoos

A beautiful set of the wines of Château le Sèpe packed in a beautiful gift box with one of the highest ratings on Vivino. The red version gets 4.1 stars and the white version no less than 4.4 stars.

The vineyards of Château le Sèpe are located in Sainte-Radegonde near the vineyards of Saint-Emilion in the heart of Entre-deux-Mers. The residence belonged to the Knights Templar and was reorganized in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The vines are planted in a clay and calcareous soil and can be found around 100 meters above the Dordogne river bed. "At high altitude" this helps the vines avoid the damaging effects of the fog that often intrudes on the banks of the river. It also ensures a natural ventilation of the vines and therefore no chemical intervention takes place and no anti-botrytis treatment has to be done. At Chateau Le Sèpe, everything is done to make the wine mainly in the vineyard, so it also carries out a manual aggressive pruning (read thinning) and this is mainly done at the top and on the side of the vineyard facing the rising sun state. This enhances the positive effects of ventilation. No further chemical products are used. The harvest is done at night to keep the fruit destined for the barrel cool and we could go on like this for a while, but it makes it clear that people consciously choose to grow the fruit naturally and then only slightly less yield and this in contrast to the many mass-driven producers. The Chateau has also completely switched to biodynamic viticulture and will be certified very soon.

The white bordeaux Le Sèpe is a blend of 50% Sauvignon and a little Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris. The Pinot Gris has been added from 2017 and makes this very beautiful bordeaux even more complex. The wine ages for 9-12 months in French oak barrels. In the glass the wine is clear and inviting. The wine is nicely dry with beautiful aromas of citrus and exotic fruit. In the mouth, the wine has a light bitterness at the back of the mouth and has excellent acidity, which also makes the wine very popular gastronomically.

The red Le Sèpe is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Malbec. The bunches of grapes are nosed before they go into the barrel. The fermentation is controlled by "thermo-regulation" with daily turning of the must to facilitate the extraction of the tannins. The next stage - the maturation - takes place in French oak barrels for 12 months (Taransaud, Cadus, Darnajou and Bel-Air barrels with a capacity of 225 or 400 liters)

>The wine has a beautiful red color and the nose is full of aromas of red fruit, black currants and notes of vanilla. The wine is medium-bodied with good acidity and benefits from supple tannins and a generous finish with good balance and very elegant.
