The Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old champagne is the new innovative champagne from champagne house Veuve Clicquot. The wine has the name Extra Brut because the dosage is limited to 3 grams of sugar per liter (read: less sugar). This amount achieved the optimum balance between crispy purity and creamy smoothness. You also experience both dimensions with every sip of this champagne. For comparison: the regular champagne from Veuve Clicquot has a dosage of 10 grams per liter. The name Extra Old comes because this concerns a special assembly of 8 different reserve wines: 1990, 1998, 1999, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014. After 3 years in barrel, this unique composition has undergone an additional 3 years of maturation (in 6 years in total) and after the disgorgement the champagne was given an extra rest year.
Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old has a carbon dioxide pressure of 4.5 bar. In comparison: a regular champagne bottle has a pressure of 6 bar. It makes the Extra Old Extra Brut a bit more refined in terms of mouthfeel. It is a multi-vintage or non-vintage champagne (100% reserve wines) with good aging potential.
This Veuve Cliquot Extra Brut Extra old is therefore the 3ème Cuvée
Today's Maison van Veuve Clicquot has one of the finest champagne vineyards, both in the size and quality of the vines. The 390 hectares are spread over 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and between 20 of the 44 Premiers Crus that make up the entire Champagne region. This exceptional heritage has been built up over the centuries, based on the plots first laid out by the founder and supplemented by later owners. Veuve Clicquot bears Madame Clicquot's casual territorial mark.
While the latter represents only a quarter of the total area of the vines in the entire Champagne region. The grape variety of each plot is determined by assessing the soil, climate, and exposure. The Veuve Clicquot vineyard consists of 47% Chardonnay grapes, 36% Pinot Noir and 17% Pinot Meunier. Clicquot's vines are usually located on gently sloping hillsides allowing the vines to take advantage of shallow soil and maximum exposure to sunlight. Since its inception, the Maison de Veuve Clicquot has also built a strong partnership with its fellow winegrowers in Champagne. These suppliers of grapes and white wines contribute to the consistent quality of the Veuve Clicquot wines.
