The Mazzei Siepi is a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Sangiovese coming from one of the best vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli. The use of blend and especially this ratio makes this a so-called Super Tuscan (too much Merlot according to the old-fashioned Italian Appelation rules). This is what many Italian top wines have been doing for years (Tignanello, Sassicaia, etc). The grapes have aged for 18 months in French Oak. The Siepi is a very elegant, soft, warm wine with dark fruit in the nose such as cherries, blackberry and blueberry, but also some leather, cedar and espresso. Beautiful aromas in the nose but what makes the wine very unique is the mouthfeel, Warm, elegant, refined is the mouth of this classically-looking wine. We have also observed this at the Namrot of Ghizzano, which also has an almost Pomreol-like wine, but with an Italian twist.
De Gambero Rosso wrote about Mazzei Siepi: "One of the 50 wines that changed Italy's wine style". It will be told to you!
Mazzei is a historic winery in Tuscany, Italy, with a history dating back to 1435. In addition to Sangiovese, Mazzei also cultivates other local varieties such as Colorino and Merlot. One of their notable assets is Fonterutoli Castle, a medieval castle that serves as the center of their wine production and is a popular destination for wine tastings and tours. Mazzei is known for balancing tradition with innovation. In addition to respecting ancient methods, the winery uses modern technologies to improve the quality of their wines. Their wines, ranging from elegant Chianti Classico to powerful Super Tuscans, are appreciated worldwide and have received numerous awards. The most famous wine they sell is the Mazzei Siepe, a "Super Tuscan" wine. It is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes, known for its rich flavors of ripe red and black fruits, spices and vanilla. The wine is matured in French oak barrels and goes well with grilled red meat, game dishes and matured cheeses. It has won several awards and is highly rated by wine experts.
