This white Sierra Cantabria Blanco is an atypical white Rioja made from grapes allowed by the appellation but very innovative. The 2019 is now available and is a somewhat unusual blend of Sauvignon Blanc (30%), Viura (30%), Tempranillo Blanco (25%), Malvasía (10%) and Maturana (5%). Almost a bit French-looking. It is fermented and aged in several barrels, and only the Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in oak to give it texture and avoid the excessive aromas. The Maturana has a very high acidity and ensures freshness. It's very different from your average white Rioja - it has fruit and flowers and is light and fresh, but with more complexity and texture. This wine has notes of soft fruit such as pear and mango to ripe citrus fruits, both in the nose and in its palate. The short barrel age also gives the wine a pleasant note from toasted bread to vanilla. A very complete wine with a very wide range of flavors.

The Sierra Cantabria Crianza is a wonderfully full Rioja, but in balance. Definitely recommended. This wine is made from the Tempranillo. The Crianza has been matured for 14 months in French and American oak. Its color is ruby red with light violet in the edges of the glass. In the nose, a bouquet of red fruits (currants, blackcurrants) with nice intensity, hints of roasted coffee, graphite and vanilla. Its taste has a good structure, good balance between tannins, alcohol and acids. We can also recommend the entire series of Hermanos Eguren/Sierra Cantanbria wines. Absolute Top Riojas.
