Bowmore 15 Year Sherry Cask

Bowmore is the oldest distillery on the famous Scottish island of Islay and the second oldest in Scotland, founded in 1779. Islay distilleries are a crowd of large, charismatic personalities, so it's no easy task to stand out. That Bowmore has managed to do this says a lot about the quality. Their 15 year old single malt is more than just a step up from different expressions. Introduced in 2007, the whiskey is appropriately named "The Darkest". The whiskey shows the characteristic dark color that arises from heavy sherry aging. Bowmore starts with 12-year-old whiskeys from ex-bourbon cask and Oloroso Sherry butts. After blending, the whiskey is then finished in Oloroso Sherry butts for an additional three years (years, not months). The first thing to notice about Bowmore 15 is that, despite the aging and color, the Sherry influence is modest here. Yet again the work of a professional. Bowmore has delivered a pearl with this 15-year-old whiskey. Color: Dark amber Nose: Dark chocolate and raisin flavors compliment the classic Bowmore smokiness.
