Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges was founded in 1884 by two brothers, Francisco and Antonio Borges. In 1998, Borges became a member of the JMV group, a group of Portuguese investors. It is now owned by a coffee producer and much of the vineyards and supplies have been sold to Taylor's well-known port home. A new winemaker is now at the helm, coming from Taylor's! With the arrival of the new winemaker, the style of the port is changing from a more traditional 'tawny' style, which requires a long ripening to a richer, more 'ruby' fruit style.

The Vintage Ports are the flagship of Borges. The port wine is a blend of Tourige Nacional, Tourige Francesca, Tinto Roriz and has a shelf life> 50 years. The Borges Soalheira Vintage Port has a deep dark red color, complex aroma of red and black fruit interwoven with spices. Fruit-rich taste. Nice sweet aftertaste. The special character of vintage port requires careful treatment prior to drinking. The bottle must have stood upright for at least 24 hours before opening to ensure that the container has been deposited on the bottom of the bottle. Decant approximately 5-7 hours before consumption. Due to the relatively low tannin content of vintage port, it oxidizes relatively quickly. In practice, this means that vintage port must be drunk within 48 hours, after which the quality is noticeably lower. Because vintage port can be stored for a very long time, it is possible that the cork is in very poor quality. In order to be able to open the port properly, a method has been developed using a so-called port tong. The tongs are heated until it is red hot. The tongs are then clamped around the neck (under the cork) for some time to then cool this neck with a very cold wet cloth.

This insanely beautiful and scarce port is unmissable with chocolate (desserts), spicy hard or blue cheese (Stilton) and of course cigars.

Vinhos Borges em destaque em mais uma edição da Essência do Vinho - Revista RUA

Founded in 1884 by brothers António and Francisco, Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges quickly became one of the most important wine companies in Portugal, the result of a combination of tradition, age-old knowledge, dedication to the land and passion for wine. Conscious of the need to control the production process from the moment the vineyard is planted, Borges is present in the main regions defined by Portugal with four own and reference quintas: in Vinho Verde, Quinta de Simaens and Quinta do Ôro; in Douro, Quinta da Soalheira and in Dão, Quinta de São Simão da Aguieira.
