The name Auchentoshan means "corner of the field" and is located in the area that the Scots call "The Lowlands".
Located at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills in Western Scotland, Auchentoshan (pronounced Aw-khen-tosh-an) Distillery was founded in 1800 and is one of the last surviving whiskey distilleries in Lowland malt. The distillery is nicknamed "Glasgow's Malt Whiskey" due to its proximity to Glasgow and the whiskey is nicknamed "Breakfast Whiskey" for its sweet taste and elegant texture.
Auchentoshan 18YO Single Malt Scotch Whiskey is made from malted barley and unsalted.
After the fermentation, the whiskey is distilled. Scotch whiskey is traditionally distilled twice, but Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch is distilled three times - first the wash still, then the intermediate still, and finally the spirit still.
This extra step during distillation - no other major distillery uses an intermediate still - is both time consuming and expensive, but produces a whiskey that is incredibly pure and free from impurities.
After the third distillation the Auchentoshan is aged 18 years 18 years in used bourbon barrels.
Color Honey gold
Nose Ripe roasted oak and vanilla spices. Chocolate cake and nice notes of fresh grass and hay
Taste roasted vanilla, notes of dark notes, perhaps chestnut and slightly spicy, slightly softening over time.
Finish long and lingering that is well balanced with notes of spicy cinnamon and oak, a little custard and fresh flowers.
