It is becoming a trend: Viticulture in the Netherlands and with climate change it is expected that the Netherlands may become an important producer in the long term. We have a beautiful Dutch winery in our range, namely Wijngaard de Bilderhof from the oldest city of Dordrecht in the Netherlands. The winemaker Wilco Venhuizen has a beautiful vineyard and, unlike many Dutch hobbyists, has chosen to select grapes that do particularly well in our climate, such as the Dornfelder, Bolero, the Rondo, the Cabernet Cortis and the Johnanniter. These grapes thrive in our climate and produce very unique white and red wines.
The Bilderhof Dordts Rood is the new name for the Bilderhof Bolero and is an early-ripening blue grape with beautiful full bunches and an abundant yield, therefore thinning the bunch is necessary. Because of the pendulous growth, this grape is guided in such a way that it can grow as a double curtain system, so that all bunches receive the same amount of sun. When the grapes are ripe, you cannot wait too long before picking, otherwise the fungi will strike. The harvest is at the end of September. At the Bilderhof vineyard, a red wine has been made from the Bolero grape since 2009. This wine is of consistent quality every year given the various Wine Seals and a bronze medal at the Dutch Wine Inspection. The Bolero is a slightly spicy, smooth red wine, maturing in American oak.
