2022 Montaribaldi Frere Barbera d'Alba
The Barbera d'Alba Frere DOC comes from the Frere vineyard of the same name located in the municipality of Treiso. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters with a western exposure. The Barbera grapes are harvested between the end of September and the first week of October. Once in the winery, the stems are removed from the grapes and the grapes are pressed. The soaking and alcoholic fermentation takes about ten days at a temperature of 27 to 29°C. The wine then remains in contact with its lees for at least two months at a temperature of 20-22 ° C so that malolactic fermentation can take place in peace. The wine is then left to rest for 3 to 4 months at a low temperature to facilitate the deposition of cloudiness and clarification and finally, in the summer after the harvest, the Barbera d'Alba DOC Frere is bottled and, after several months of storage, placed in the cellars it is ready to be put on the market.
In the glass, the Barbera d'Alba Frere has a fresh ruby red color. On the nose the wine is fruity, intense with notes of cinnamon and cloves and on the palate this medium bodied wine is smooth, soft, fruity with a balanced acidity and an unexpectedly long lasting aftertaste. The Frere Barbera is the youngest, freshest, fruitiest barbera from the Monairiabaldi collection. Fruit dominated and not too heavy. A beautiful glass of red with Italian elegance.
The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. Montaribaldi grapes grow among the vineyards of Angelo Gaja's famous winery. Not the least to have as neighbors. The owners of the Montaribaldi winery, the brothers Luciano and Roberto Taliano, are happy with their plots of land, which are spread in the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Wine has been made here for centuries and even UNESCO appreciates the interplay of man and nature by recently including this region in the prestigious World Heritage List. Although the Montaribaldi winery has been around for much longer, the brothers have not been in business for very long in wine terms, since 1994. But together with winemaker Carlo Arnulfo, they already make beautiful Piedmont wines with a great price/quality ratio.
The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines originate in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are grown and produced sustainably. As they call it: making 'vineyard wines' sets them apart from others.
The Barbera grape is known for its high acidity and used to be the wine of the people because of its large harvest and wide applicability. Times have changed and Barbera wines have made a major improvement in quality. This Barbera from Montaribaldi comes from older vines from the vineyard called Dü Gir. By maturing the wine in new wooden barrique barrels for a year, a beautiful balance is created between the typical fresh Barbera acids and round tannins of the oak. The Talianos then let the bottles rest in their cellar for another eight months before this wine goes on sale. You can taste the love for wine making and this quality makes the Barbera Frere unbeatable, especially for this price.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
