Description
Markus Molitor has been making great wines in the Moselle for years. Previously best known for its wines with residual sweetness. Nowadays he is mainly praised for his dry wines, with his 2 and 3 star dry wines at Parker almost always scoring between 96/100 and 100/100. Tremendous minerality and length. In addition to the wines under his own name, he purchased the Domäne Serrig vineyard in the Saar Valley in 2016. Domäne These wines are only distributed en primeur by Place du Bordeaux and to which Grandcruwijnen is affiliated. Markus Molitor is a German star winemaker and Riesling 'Supermo' with 23x100 points and 35x99 points from renowned critics such as Wine Advocate & James Suckling.
The approximately 23 hectare steep site with a south-southwest orientation has a medium-sized slate weathered soil with a high stone content. The special thing about the Sonnenuhr are the centuries-old vineyards with mostly uncultivated vines. Wines from the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr are incredibly elegant, delicate, playful and have a delicate acid structure. The 100% healthy manually harvested grapes were gently pressed and macerated for several hours on the aromatic and mineral-rich berry skins. The must was then fermented spontaneously, slowly and coolly, so that the wine's versatile, fruity aromas could fully develop. A gentle expansion in stainless steel tanks with long storage on the fine yeast (sur lie) followed the fermentation.
The Markus Molitor Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese White Capsule comes from centuries-old vines. This beautiful wine has a complex nose with a broad spectrum of aromas of stone and citrus fruit. It draws you into this concentrated and highly structured dry Moselle Riesling, which is medium-bodied but contains only 11% alcohol. A seriously spicy finish that is decidedly dry and very stony and has a great drinking window.

The Molitor family has a deep-rooted history in winemaking that spans many generations. Markus Molitor represents the eighth generation of the Molitor legacy. The family's involvement in wine growing in the Moselle goes back to the 18th century. Markus Molitor officially took over the family estate in 1984 at the age of 20. Located in the Mosel wine region, the estate features steep vineyards along the Mosel River, a characteristic feature of the region. The Mosel is known for its steep, terraced vineyards.
