Description
Founded in 1916 in the center of the town of Jumilla, Juan Gil, a family business, has been at the forefront of establishing the Jumilia as a (top) wine region and has led several winemakers to stand up for the prestige/potential of the wines from the area and the qualities of the Monastrell grape. True to its origins, this winery has seamlessly merged tradition and the latest technology with respect for the environment. Juan Gill is also the creator of the famous Clio and the world famous El Nido.
From selected vineyards, the grapes of Tempranillo & Syrah are fermented in 16-Hectoliter egg-shaped concrete tanks temperature controlled at a temperature of just below 17°C / 62°F. This cool fermentation requires special tanks but gives extra freshness to obtain this beautiful rosé . After fermentation, the Juan Gil rosé matures for approx. 5 months in French oak barrels with the aim of giving a soft and round mouthfeel. This is not your average and mass-produced rosé, but a rosé that can also be drunk a bit older without any problem. The Wine Advocate (Parker) writes about the wine: "......is more serious than your average rosé. This could probably evolve in bottle for a couple of years"
The Juan Gil has a salmon pink color. In the nose we smell fresh notes of red plums, cherries and cranberries. The well-integrated oak gives hints of nuts, toast and a ripe creamy weight with apricot and peach fruit in the aftertaste at the back of the palate and a savory orange zest. This rose from Jaun Gil is an all-rounder with food and is delicious with salads, pasta, paella, fish and cheese, but it is also a perfect wine for picnics, barbecues and summer parties and highly recommended with spicy food.
We're not going to deny it; we are a big fan of Juan Gill and think it is especially nice that he has wines in the top segment, such as the Clio and the El Nido, as well as wines that are also made with love and have a high quality, but are also affordable are. We have the honor in the Netherlands to supply this special line from Juan Gill.
Parker
The bright pink rosé Rosado is more intense in all senses than the Honoro Vera, with red fruit aromas and a balanced palate. It was produced as a 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Syrah from young vines fermented with neutral yeasts, mostly in stainless steel with part in concrete and used 500- and 600-litre oak barrels, and with an élevage of four months before bottling. The deeper color and more nuanced aromas and flavors come from the more oxidative fermentation from the part in oak. It also has deeper and more pungent flavors and a long finish. A serious rose .

The beautiful bodega Juan Gil was founded in 1916 and has been owned by the Gil family for generations. Unlike the majority of Jumilla, the vineyards are located on the plateau between the mountains. As a result, Juan Gil benefits from a more temperate climate compared to the wineries located in the valley. The metamorphosis on Juan Gil's domain is truly spectacular. Where Juan Gil was always one of the leading wineries of the Jumilla region, today it marks itself more than ever as the top winery of the region. This is mainly due to the constant investments of owner Miguel Gil. His wines from the Jumilla region, which was synonymous with mass and basic, now rank among the very best in Spain. And what is beautiful, not only the top cuvées but any wine with the Gil signature is a pleasure. In addition to the well-known and famous wines of Juan Gil under the name El Nido and Clio, the family has beautiful domains including Pedrera, the 12 Meses (silver Label)| and the L'Altre de Can Blau. All in all, beautiful wines which are all organically grown and produced and have an excellent price/quality ratio
Miguel Gil also owns the top estate El Nido and out of respect and love for his region (and great wine!), is choosing quality over quantity in Jumilla, which had been undiscovered for years. For the mini-project of Bodegas El Nido, he calls on the Australian top winemaker Chris Ringland (at Parker perfect for 100/100…). At this small Bodega, 2 wines are made: Clio & El Nido. The 16 hectares of Monastrell vineyards, which are 60 years old, are situated on terraces that are oriented to the northeast. In addition, 25 years ago, 12 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted in the same region on the north-facing hills. Today, these unique vineyards offer top-quality grapes that are magnificently refined by the Gil-Ringland duo into Spain's most aristocratic wines.
Organic/organic viticulture and sustainability are important elements in the vision of the Gil Family. Click here to see a nice video overview: Gil Family Estates - Video
