Hiruzta is a young family business in the Basque Country. Hiruzta means 'a harvest by three persons', namely that of father Asensio Rekalde and his sons Txarli and Angel. Immediately after the admission of the village of Hondarribia to the DO Txakolí de Getaria, the family buys vineyards here. In 2012 their first wines come on the market. Hiruzta is now one of the best performing houses in the region. The wines are already sold in more than 20 countries.

The Hiruzta Txakolí comes from the municipality of Hondarribia in the DO Getariako Txakolina in the Basque Country, literally against the French border. The vineyards are located on the slope of the Jaizkibel mountain, the westernmost peak of the Pyrenees. This slope protects the vineyards against wind and moisture from the Cantabrian Sea. The vineyards are located on the southwest, on a thick, stony soil with a lot of clay and marl. The vines are led up via poles and wire. This is done to promote air flow, prevent high humidity and to catch more sun. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and gently pressed. After cold stabilization, the juice is stored in tanks. This is done at a cold temperature, so that the natural carbon dioxide formation is preserved.

The Txacolí has a very good acidity, body and volume, enhanced by the sur lie upbringing, which allows the wine to remain in contact with its yeasts during the maturation (approximately 6-7 months). The nice thing about the Txacolí grape is that it is never excessive in alcohol. In the glass, the Hiruzta Txakolí has a light green-yellow color with intense notes of pear, apple, grapefruit, pineapple and passion fruit in the nose. in the mouth the wine is crisp, fresh and tight with notes of citrus and pineapple. An extremely subtle, mineral bubble gives tension. This wine is delicious with pintxos with anchovies and for us one of the best wines with oysters.

"Fresh, light-bodied, lower-alcohol Txakolis deserve to be better known. This is a classic Getaria style, with a slight spritz and pretty saline, slatey richness allied to crisp acidity and citrus and fresh herb flavours." - 90 points , Decanter

Hiruzta is a young family business in the Basque Country. Hiruzta means 'a harvest by three persons', namely that of father Asensio Rekalde and his sons Txarli and Angel. Immediately after the admission of the village of Hondarribia to the D.O. Txakolí de Getaria, the family buys vineyards here. In 2012 their first wines come on the market. Hiruzta is now one of the best performing houses in the region. The wines are already sold in more than 20 countries.

Hiruzta works with the typical Basque white grape Hondarrabi Zuri (supplemented with a small amount of Gros Manseng). With this they make a classic Txakolí with an extremely subtle mineral bubble and the more modern Txakolí Berezia. A juicy Txakolí Tinto is also made with the red grape Hondarrabi Beltza.

Due to the high acidity, the mineral character and the civilized alcohol percentage, the Txakolí wines from Hiruzta fit very well with various dishes. Of course, the wines go perfectly with fish and shellfish, but also think of soft sheep and goat cheeses, grilled vegetables or veal.

The vineyards of Hiruzta are located about 3 kilometers from the Bay of Biscay. The winery is located in the Basque Country next to the village of Hondarribia, just one kilometer from the French border. Hiruzta grows the grapes on the mountain slopes of the Jaizkibel, the westernmost peak of the Pyrenees. This slope protects the vineyards from wind and moisture from the Bay of Biscay.
