2022 Herdade do Sobroso Cellar Selection Rose
Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards situated on the banks of the river Guadiana and its tributary river Rio dos Patos or the river of the ducks. The trademark is therefore the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this explains why this winery can make very nice wines because there is never a water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one in the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean that ensures healthy ripening. This beautiful Herdade do Sobroso Reserva is a blend of the Alicante Boushet & Syrah.
For the Cellar Selection series, the best grapes from selected plots are picked by hand. This very nice rosé wine is a 100% Syrah. The fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel at a very low temperature for a long period of 28-32 days and then matured for 6 months. This is not just a rosé, but this is a fabulous wine in our eyes. Almost no sugar (0.3g per litre) and not too exaggerated in its alcohol (13%), so incomparable to the many strawberry sweet rosés. This is quality with a capital K. The wine has a beautiful very light color (yes it could almost have been a Provence rosé). The rosé is fresh, lush and very attractive with raspberry and tropical fruit. The wine has a long and intense aftertaste and a pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. With 1 word we would best describe the wine as Elegant. The Sobroso Cellar Selection Rose is gastronomically very versatile and perfect with a Fruit du Mer, beautifully baked Dorade or a sea bass in a salt crust.
