2022 Espiritu de Chile Chronos Classic Merlot

Chile is considered one of the most innovative wine-growing countries in the world with even temperate and cool microclimates and wines that are made on 'terroir'. The wines are grafted onto the vineyards and their soil, which is reflected in the taste. Espiritu de Chile is unique in the scents and flavors of its wines and does not have exaggerated fruit characters. The wines are pure, clean and have beautiful minerals. Espiritu produces wines that are sustainably made; there is a lot of attention for nature and little or no use is made of pesticides and fertilizers.

The Curicó area in Chile borders the south of the Rapel Valley and is characterized by a Mediterranean climate and a soil rich in loam and clay. In the Curicó Valley, temperatures drop considerably at night, which ensures that the grapes ripen slowly and retain their acidity. This results in particularly fresh and fruit-driven wines. The Chronos Merlot grapes are harvested manually. After this, the fermentation takes place for 8 days on stainless steel between 26 – 28 degrees Celsius. The maceration and fermentation is limited to 8 days, in order to preserve the fruit flavors and soft tannins. In the glass, this fruity Chronos Merlot has a beautiful fresh ruby red color. The wine is smooth, round with no tannins present. Fresh red fruit such as raspberry and red cherry. In the mouth, the wine is round again, but we also taste some spices and a hint of vanilla.

A lovely glass of red. Not too heavy, moderate in alcohol and excellent to drink standalone, but also delicious with grilled meat, grilled vegetables, duck breast, and strong cheeses.
