Description
This Du Toitskloof Pinotage - Merlot - Ruby Cabernet is a round, full wine with inviting raspberry aromas and hints of spices and dried banana. Not too heavy and with a nice freshness between the red fruit. A wine with an excellent price / quality. Review : Best Value Gilbert & Gaillard 2021

ABOUT DU TOITSKLOOF
Read more under the tab: Winery. Here you will also find some nice videos and photos about the great area.
When the founders of Du Toitskloof Wines dreamed of their young, innovative winery, they knew that the journey was just as important as the destination. Du Toitskloof Wines was founded in 1962 by 6 winegrowers as a cooperative. The six visionaries purchased 18 ha of land from founder Visser de Wet and took delivery of the first grapes in February 1963.
In the early years Du Toitskloof Wines became known as a producer of bulk wines, but after the winery began to focus on the bottled wine market in the early 1990s, they quickly built a reputation as a forward thinking brand, not only in the innovative winemaking disciplines introduced in the cellar, but in their commitment to social development as a Fairtrade producer. The winery is built on three principles; they believe in always delivering a product of the highest quality, consistently, without compromising ethically.
Du Toitskloof Wines sources the majority of their grapes from the Breedekloof Valley, all within a 10km radius of the cellar. This ensures that all the grapes share similar soil types and microclimates. With a wide range of different terroirs, but with grapes grown along cool mountain slopes, in alluvial soils with high water holding capacity, as well as sandy and rocky soils.
Most vines are grafted onto Richter 99 and 101-14 rootstocks and receive supplemental irrigation based on hydrometer readings. Canopies are actively managed to ensure bunches are shaded and out of direct sunlight. Grapes are picked at optimum physiological ripeness, allowing them to retain their intense color and flavor spectrum.
In hot summers the vineyards are shaded early on by the high peaks of the Du Toitskloof Mountains, leading to slow ripening and intensity of flavours. White wines produce tropical aromas of guava, gooseberry, pineapple and lichi, while red wines produce fruity dark berries, cherries, blackcurrants and fynbos nuances.
