2022 Domaine Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Blanc Les Baronnes

Domaine Henri Bourgeois is located in Chavignol, where the wine estate covered 2 hectares 60 years ago. The tenth generation of the family business now owns 65 hectares, which supplies grapes for half of the wines produced. The family also owns a property in New Zealand's Marlborough region and even bottles some of their spicy sancerres. The top wines of sancerre and pouilly-fumé mature in oak barrels.

Sancerre's terroirs are as versatile as the wines they produce. Les Baronnes is a good example of this. This delicious Sancerre is made from grapes from the vineyards between Chavignol and Sancerre. These have a substrate consisting of mixtures of clay and lime. Of which about two thirds is clay and one third lime. This produces wines with a lively and fruity character, with typical fruity Sauvignon aromas. This is taken into account when making wine, through fermentation at a low temperature, between 15 and 18 degrees. This is followed by maturation on the fine lie, which gives it a nice ripe and rich character. The epitome of a classic Sancerre, well typified for Sauvignon Blanc, in a special, mouth-filling and powerful style.

A delicious Sancerre from Henri Bourgeois so quality is assured. The old vines of more than 30 years give the wine its concentration. In the glass, this sauvignon blanc has a light fresh color with golden hues. In the nose we smell the typical notes of a good sancerre such as pineapple, grapefruit, white flowers, passion fruit and a little citrus. This is a super fruity, aromatic and complex wine. Fresh and lively with citrus fruit and a hint of gooseberry. This Les Baronnes Sancerre is nicely ripe, juicy and tasty, rich and full, nice and dry, not at all strict, due to its soft acidity.
