2021 La Scolca Gavi dei Gavi Black Label Gold Limited Edition
The name La Scolca comes from the name "Sfurca" which means viewpoint. In the past there was a farm on the land of La Scolca that served as a lookout. The name La Scolca is synonymous worldwide with Gavi, a superior dry white wine from Piemonte. In the period 1917-1919, the estate came into the possession of the Soldati family. Nowadays it is Giorgio Soldati who runs the domain together with his daughter Chiara, already the fifth generation. This makes La Scolca the oldest wine company in the region that is still run by one and the same family. The wines of La Scolca are internationally praised by many stars and the Gavi dei Gavi "Black Label" is even Queen Elizabeth's house wine.
In the glass, this Gavi Black Label from La Scola is pale yellow. In the nose we smell intense fruity and floral notes. The minerality sprays out of the glass. In the mouth we taste a medium bodied wine. Fresh with a beautiful acidity with notes of almonds and hazelnut. The wine is very elegant. This is of course a nice wine with fish, paella and oysters, but in our opinion it is also a nice 'enjoying wine' with a good conversation.
Black Tag. House wine of Queen Elizabeth, queen of a runaway island. She finds her peace of mind in this Gavi. Read about their still wine at the Gold and the Villa, add many euros and then decide whether you want to drink like a queen. Fine blossoming bianco, mineral acids, pears peeled with a white gold knife. How come it doesn't score much higher than its simpler relatives? In the price category around forty euros, the competition is fierce. Harold Hamersma in De Grote Hamersma 2017, rated with an 8.5
