Laura Catena - daughter of the famous wine pioneer Nicolas Catena - set up the series La Posta wines to give the smaller winegrowers of Mendoza their own stage, instead of a nameless place in the local cooperative. The wines are called La Posta, after the typical local pub that you will find everywhere on the side of the road.
Paula and Pablo Pizzella are relative newcomers to Mendoza. Out of love for nature, two teachers leave the city of Buenos Aires for Mendoza. Paula and Pablo Pizzella were physical education teachers. They immediately attracted attention with their wines from high altitude, cool vineyards, at an altitude of 1100 meters. With their three children, they now focus on their 10 hectare vineyard in the Uco Valley. That does mean that he is cared for with a lot of warmth and attention. No wonder this produces beautiful Malbecs. The vineyards were planted in 1998 and the soil consists of sandy loam, sand, silt and clay with 20% stones covered with limestone. The fruit comes first here, because of the beautiful aromatic grapes that are harvested, and the careful use of wood. No more than 15% of the barrels are renewed annually, which produces a subtle wood aroma. A special, beautifully typed Malbec.
The La Posta Pizzella Malbec (Pizzella Family Vineyard) has a deep ruby red color in the glass with fresh red berries, cassis, pure fruit, black cherries, vanilla, jam, juniper, spices and chocolate in the nose. The Malbec has concentration and depth, black currants and a touch of chocolate, beautiful wood, fine vanilla and black pepper, nice acidity, nice and firm and tasteful. Powerful and intense red wine. Delicious with duck breast with berry sauce, lamb cutlet from the grill, pepper steak, matured cheeses.
