2021 Herdade do Sobroso Cellar Selection Tinto

Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the Guadiana River and its tributary the Rio dos Patos or the River of the Ducks. The trademark is the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very beautiful wines because there is never any water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one within the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean, which ensures healthy ripening. This beautiful Herdade do Sobroso Cellar Selection Tinto is a blend of Alicante Boushet & Syrah.

The Syrah & Alicante Bouchet grapes for this Herdade do Sobroso Cellar Selection Tinto are hand-picked and only very gently crushed. The wine fermented in open fermentation barrels under controlled temperatures and was then allowed to mature for more than 12 months in new 500 liter French oak barrels, followed by another 6-9 months of bottle aging. In the glass the wine has a beautiful red color. On the nose the wine has beautiful notes of red ripe fruit, cocoa and jam. In the mouth it is full-bodied with a long-lasting and elegant aftertaste. The quality really shines from this wine because everything here is so beautifully balanced - freshness, fruit, dosed alcohol - we would almost call it a Portuguese Burgundy and the winemaker Filipe Teixeira Pinto thought so too because this beauty is also bottled in a beautiful Burgundy bottle. Combine this beautiful wine with traditional Portuguese meat dishes or with ripe cheeses. Nice to drink but can certainly cellar for another 10+ years.
