This Chablis Vieilles Vignes has a warm place in the heart of Gilbert Picq. Because the older vines gain more richness and strength as the years go by, he knows better than anyone that the best wine comes from those oh-so-beautiful older vines. It usually takes a few years for this wine to show its real face. After about 5 years, but a little older it is even more beautiful, this Chablis opens and takes on the lush, fat character of a truly grand white Burgundy. When drunk young, it is also beautiful, but still a great star in the making.
The old vines, of course 100% Chardonnay, make this wine a feast on the palate, exceptionally broad and powerful, with the aroma of vanilla and smokiness, toasted bread; the taste is broad and rich, with nice acidity, beautifully balanced, with a special richness for a Chablis. An impressive wine that goes perfectly with strong-tasting fish and dishes based on white meat.
The cellars of Domaine Gilbert Picq et Fils are located in the village of Chichée, on the left bank of the river Serein 3 km south of the town of Chablis. Today the estate is owned by Gilbert's two sons Didier and Pascal and his daughter Marilyn Picq. The vineyards are managed by Pascal, Didier leads the vinification in the cellars and Marilyn is in overall charge. The Picq winery owns a total of 13 hectares of vineyards, of which 2 hectares are Premier Cru and 1 hectare with old vines of around 50 years old. Picq is a classic example of how to make truly amazing wines. The winery regularly receives very positive reviews from international wine journalists. For example in Wine Spectator and guides such as Gault Millau and Guide Hachette, who praise the house and winemaker Didier Picq for the continuous pursuit of quality.
