The Weingut Dr Loosen Riesling Trocken has a clear, straw yellow color in the glass. In the nose aromas of grapefruit, pear and something of mandarin. In the taste palette notes of lemon zest, apple and a hint of passion fruit, which are accompanied by nervously fresh acids in the aftertaste. At the end of September, the grapes are picked by hand with the greatest care. After direct pneumatic pressing, the juice is allowed to undergo a temperature-controlled (18°C) alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in the vinification cellar. The wine is then transferred to clean stainless steel tanks, in which only part of the malolactic fermentation takes place, followed by maturation on the 'lie' for a few months. This is followed by the assembly of the wine, clarification, light filtering and bottling.

The domain Dr. Loosen has been owned by the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen took over in 1988, he came into possession of very special vines with an average age of over 60 years! Some of the vineyards themselves consist of ungrafted vines over 120 years old! In order to produce world-class wines, Ernst Loosen drastically reduced the yield per hectare and immediately stopped the systematic chemical fertilization of the vineyards. Since then, only natural fertilizers are used in small quantities. The greatest revolution took place in the wine cellars, where everything was set up to treat the grapes, must and wines as gently as possible, in order to fully preserve the essence of terroir and grape. Riesling is a unique grape in the vineyards. It takes different forms, from dry to noble sweet, from elegant and light to full and ultra-concentrated, depending on the moment of harvest, the age of the vines, the ripening stage of the grapes, whether or not noble rot (botrytis), the terroir and obviously the harvest year. The bottom of Dr. Loosen vineyards consists of a rock-hard slate substrate that forces the roots to go deep in search of water, minerals and nutrition. The location of the vineyards on the extremely steep, south-facing slopes on the banks of the Mosel is ideal for slow, perfect ripening. The grapes bathe in the sun three times, as it were, directly and reflected from the stone floor and the river. The vineyards of Dr. Loosen are located along the lazily meandering Mosel, between Bernkastel and Kindel, with world famous names such as Bernkasteler Lay, Dr. Loosen, Graacher Himmelreich, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Urziger Würzgarten, Erdener Prälat and Erdener Treppchen.
