2021 Domaine Lafage Cadireta Chardonnay
Domaine Lafage Cadireta, is a new member of Lafage. This wine made from chardonnay, from the limestone soils, undergoes a cold maceration for 10 days on the skins of the pressed viognier, before fermentation. The wine is partially fermented on new wood and undergoes battonage for 3 months. This gives this wine fullness, creaminess and an aromatic nose. The Cadireta has a beautiful scent of ripe tropical fruit, flowers and a touch of wood aging. In the taste, the beautiful balance is striking and the tropical fruit returns and supplemented with something of honey. A special glass of wine. Culinary partner of dishes with veal, mussels, salmon, chicken with curry or with creamy cheeses.
Jean-Marie Lafage is a descendant of a winegrowing family and Oenology was the logical choice of study. During his training he gets to know Eliane and the love for wine grows into ... a marriage and joint wine experiences on all wine continents (South Africa, California, Chile, Australia). The urge to own a domain takes shape when Jean-Marie takes over the family domain.
The Lafage domain extends over 200h, of which 138h are planted. Between the vineyards you can enjoy the spectacular foothills of the Pyrenees. Nestled between “mar i muntanya” this produces beautiful summer wines. The plots are located both at sea level and at 400m altitude. Both are exposed to very hot summers, harsh winters and have to brave a very poor “marbro-schisteux” soil. The infamous Tramontane wind provides the necessary cooling. The productivity of the terroir is deliberately kept low (15 to 25 hl/ha). At 400m above sea level, anchored in a schist marble base , these plots provide a perfect place to mature for the Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Marsanne and Muscat grapes.
