2021 De Wetshof Sideways Sauvignon Blanc
This fresh Sauvignon Blanc under the Sideways label is produced by the quality winery De Wetshof from South Africa, Robertson region. Although Danie de Wet is considered the South African specialist in the field of Chardonnay wines, his domain, with a gravel substrate, is ideally suited for the planting of Sauvignon Blanc . It is a matter of choosing the right terroir, which here consists of a stony bottom of river boulders that were once laid down by the Breede River. This produces a remarkably fresh and mineral Sauvignon Blanc. Remarkable, because you might not immediately expect that in the warm climate of Robertson. But the cool sea breeze that flows into the valley on a beautiful summer afternoon also does its job. Pure and powerful in taste, wonderfully smooth and beautiful Sauvignon.
The wine is exotic and open, very fragrant, touch of grassiness, gooseberries, ripe fruit, guava, nicely dusty, soft and fresh in taste, hint of artichoke, asparagus, lively, some good acidity, wonderfully pure and clean. This wine goes well with fish dishes, grilled squid with red pepper, salad with chicken and asparagus, mussels with garlic. Also delicious during a cozy drink moment!
