The charismatic Bibi Graetz has only been active in Tuscany for almost twenty years, but has already achieved cult status with his pure terroir expressions of local Tuscan grape varieties. For Bibi Graetz, the authenticity of the region is paramount. No international grape varieties here, but 100% Sangiovese in all its glory. Bibi Graetz's wines are ultimately pure expressions of terroir and the unique properties of a vintage year.

“2021 it's a hit! The right word to describe Testamatta I think is “fleshy”. I say “flesh-ness” because there is a combination of fatness, transparency and freshness. It's like when you take a steak of Kobe beef, you cut it and you put it on the fire...and it just melts. This beautiful fat, which is the most amazing thing in the world, combined with the transparency and the freshness of the red fruits. This combination in Testamatta is really magical.” Bibi Graetz

The Testamatta comes from vineyards of very old vines spread across the various vineyard holdings cultivated by Bibi Graetz in both the provinces of Siena and Florence in Tuscany. The vineyard(s) are actually small postage stamp plots with vines 80 years or older, and each plot represents enological properties that have been specifically selected for its individual character or uniqueness. After manual picking and fermentation, the sangiovese matures in French oak barriques for a period of 30 months, after which the wine is bottled and undergoes further bottle aging for at least 6 months in the Bibi Graetz cellars. In the glass the wine has a deep ruby red color with an intense and complex bouquet of scents in the nose, blueberries, cherries, violets, juniper berries, rosemary, cloves and cocoa. The taste is elegant, with a lot of finesse and complexity. The wine is powerful, full of fruit with velvety tannins. The aftertaste is soft, intense and very long lasting.

Today Graetz is one of the biggest names in Tuscany. The labels on the bottles show that Bibi Graetz comes from an artistic family, as he painted the images on the labels himself. The wines are rare and limited. Testamatta production from just 10,000 bottles per year.
