The Velenosi wines come from the d'Abruzzo hills in the province of Marche. The vineyards are located 200 to 300 meters above sea level. It ensures that the wine is fresh and very accessible. Ruby red in color with a fresh scent of berries, strawberries and raspberries. Azienda Velenosi was founded 25 years ago by two entrepreneurs Angela and Ercole Velenosi. Despite the relatively short period that they have been active in viticulture, their boundless passion for the profession has made them learn quickly. They are proud, and rightly so, of their state-of-the-art winery in the province of Marken (Marche) near Ascoli Piceno. The beautiful wines come from about 100 hectares of the domain.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Velenosi vini from the Italian province of Marche is an intensely firm but fruity wine with cherries in the smell, cherries in the taste and cherries in the aftertaste. The beautiful Montepulciano grape grows in the Marchese on the flanks of the Abruzzo and comes to full ripening there. The vines are tied to traditional pergolas on the full limestone soil. Velenosi Vini is the winery, truly Italian in style. Since 1984, this beautiful vineyard has been owned by Angela and Ercole Velenosi, two true winemakers who have earned their spurs in the Italian Marchese or Marches. The Montepulciano is a generous grape. In a perfect year, a vine produces up to 8 kilos of ripe grapes that are suitable for great classic wine. You can also make beautiful wine from the young vines, but then you have to dare to use the most modern techniques. So that's exactly what Angela Velenosi does, by creating a super fruity wine raised on stainless steel. And why the wine has so much intensity and structure? Because she lets the dark grape skins of the Montepulciano ferment for 20 days, without stems to provide extra fruit in the taste. Velenosi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a fresh and very accessible wine. Beautiful ruby red, with lots of fruit in the form of berries, raspberries and strawberries. The wine remains tasty due to the soft pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. The wine likes Italian dishes such as pastas, pizzas and pesto. Combine to your heart's content with dishes with red meat or cream sauces. After dinner a cheese is also no problem and romantic by the fireplace is also recommended. Not surprising that the Velenosi is one of our best-selling wines because price/quality is excellent.

ABOUT THE GRAPE MONTEPULCIANO

Montepulciano is the main black grape variety of the central Adriatic coast. While its origin is almost certainly in Valle Peligna, between the provinces of L'Aquila and Pescara, the origin of the name is somewhat more uncertain. Montepulciano is in fact a small Tuscan town famous for its wines obtained from "Prugnolo Gentile" (one of the many other names of Sangiovese). For several centuries, the two grape varieties were confused despite their distinctly different characteristics.

It was not until 1853, a researcher in ampelography, that Silvestri correctly separated the two grapes, identifying himself with "primaticcio" Sangiovese (because of the early ripening of the Tuscan grape) and with "cordisco" Montepulciano (a name that today day is still considered correct). From an agronomic point of view, it is a slow-ripening grape, likes warm climates and vineyards on hills. These characteristics significantly hinder cultivation north of Monte Conero, a promontory on the sea near Ancona, while it is ubiquitous in the areas in and around Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, in Molise and in the north of Puglia.

In Abruzzo, its homeland, it is grown practically everywhere. Smaller crops can also be found in Lazio, in Umbria and in southern Tuscany. In ideal soils, it can express its typical sweetness, the richness of its extracts and a tight tannic texture. A pure use gives life to full-bodied wines, very fruity when young and able to age for ten years with the versions aged in wood, where time reveals more complex, harmonious and elegant characteristics. Montepulciano is also excellent for producing dense roses, rich in flavor and with shades of floral scents and wild berries.

Vineyard for 2020 Velenosi Montepulciano D' Abruzzo DOC

Velenosi winery was founded in 1984 by two entrepreneurs Angela and Ercole Velenosi. Despite the relatively short period that they have been active in wine growing, their boundless passion for the profession has taught them quickly. They are proud, and rightly so, of their state-of-the-art wine company in the province of Marche (Marche) near Ascoli Piceno. The beautiful wines come from about 100 hectares that the domain is large.

Ercole and Angela always combined artisan tradition with advanced technology and interpret the winemaking process in a creative way. The company grew continuously, and in 2005 Paolo Garbini joined the board. Today Velenosi spreads the scents and colors of the Piceno territory all over the world with its unique wines.

Quality is very important to Angela and Ercole. This starts in the vineyards where Verdicchio, Pecorino, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Rosso Piceno Superiore are cultivated. Each wine is made according to a fixed and proven process, starting on the first day that the grapes reach the wine cellar. In its short existence, Velenosi has already enjoyed a wide appreciation of wine journalists and has won various awards from Robert Parker, Wine Spectator and Gambero Rosso ('Tre Bicchieri'), among others.
