2020 Tridente Malvasía Centenaria
Bodegas Tridente is also part of Juan Gil, a family business founded in 1916 in the center of the city of Jumilla and is the champion of the map of Jumilia as a (top) wine region. True to its origins, this winery has seamlessly fused tradition and news technology with respect for the environment. Juan Gill is also the creator of the famous Clio and the world famous El Nido.
Tridente is located in Castilla y Leon and is a VINO DE LA TIERRA DE CASTILLA Y LEON because according to (old-fashioned) regulations, in the Ribera del Duero, where this wine comes from, only red wine based on Tempranillo may be produced the concept of Super Ribera has arisen, as in Tuscany. A fantastic white wine, this Tridente Malvasía Centenaria will see its first light in 2021 and only a maximum of 8,000 bottles have been made. This is a new premium white wine, made from an ancient Malvasia vineyard.
The Malvasía grapes come from a vineyard called El Carrueco, planted in 1920 in the traditional "vaso" system on very sandy soils. Half of the juice was fermented in 225 liter French oak barrels and aged gracefully for 6 months. The remaining juice was fermented in a small stainless steel tank and matured over those 6 months with its fine lees (sur lie) to add beneficial textures and flavors. In the glass, the Tridente Malvasía Centenaria has a bright straw yellow color. In the nose we smell almonds and nuts, white flowers, peach peels and predominant notes of ripe yellow apples. On the palate, the white Tridente is flavoursome and balanced, with a floral touch on a long, mildly spicy finish that leaves notes of apple and pear nectar. Very elegant and graceful, it goes perfectly with starters, rice dishes, fish, shellfish, various salads and pastas, white meats and fresh and young cheeses.
In Castilla y León you will find Bodegas Tridente, a small winery that specialises in creating wines from Tempranillo and the indigenous varieties Tinta de Toro and Prieto Picudo. The climate of Castilla y León is perfectly suited to Tempranillo, with icy winds in winter and hot humid summers, Bodegas Tridente is able to produce wines with depth and body, whilst still remaining elegant with a distinct acidity.
The true beauty of the wines are rooted in the history of the vines. Some of the grapevines are over 100 years old, producing extremely low yields of grapes with intensely concentrated flavours.
