2020 Méo-Camuzet Fixin

Jean-Nicolas Méo is widely regarded as one of the very best producers of red Burgundies. His wines have a unique style. They possess a sensual velvety structure, complexity, richness, depth and an enchanting perfume. They are very reminiscent of the wines of the recently deceased Henri Jayer (according to many the greatest winemaker in the modern history of Burgundy). This is not surprising, Jean Méo learned the trade from Jayer and he was associated with Méo-Camuzet as an advisor for a long time.

Fixin is a commune in the French department of Côte-d'Or and has 785 inhabitants. The place is part of the arrondissement of Dijon. The Fixin appellation covers about 100 hectares of vineyard and is located just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The best vineyards here lie on the slopes and have Premier Cru status. Fixin has long been undervalued and served as a prelude to the more famous wine villages in the Côte de Nuits. Fortunately, in recent years a Fixin has stood firm on its own two feet and this Burgundy has been given the necessary praise.

The Méo-Camuzet Fixin is very elegant with perfumed dark berries, spices and soft earth tones in the nose. The Fixin is medium-to-full bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and a subtle minerality. The wine is already surprisingly accessible for a Fixin. The acidity is quite modest and the wine is charming in its youth. Although the Camuzet Fixin can age nicely, it is difficult to resist it in the first years: in our range of Meo-Camuzet, the Fixin is often the first wine to drink well, with its brother(s) often taking a little more time need.
