Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the river Guadiana and its tributary the Rio dos Patos or the river of the ducks. The trademark is therefore the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very nice wines because there is never water debt. Besides the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only region within the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean that ensures healthy maturation.
Unlike the Barrique select, the Herdade do Sobroso Branco AnAs reserva is made from three grapes, namely Antão Vaz, Arinto and Verdelho. As with all their wines, Sobroso understands the art of determining the exact right moment of ripeness of the grapes and when that moment comes, the grapes are picked by hand and then destemmed and lightly bruised. The fermentation and aging takes place in stainless steel barrels sur lie and is then bottled for some time.
The Anas Reserva comes from a vineyard located right next to the Guadania River. This large river has a tributary which flows next to the vineyard towards Herdade do Sobroso. This river is called AnAs and this means: "of the ducks" because this stream of about 4 km flows into a small lake near the winery which is populated by many ducks (hence the duck appears on the Sobroso labels). . This river is among other things a reason why such fantastic wines can be made which also have a very controlled level. The freshness, cooling, water and sediment deposition is a unique to Alentejo,
The Sobroso Branco AnAs Reserva from the DOC Alentejo is very clean and elegant. The wine has a clear color in the glass with a very light green/yellowish tinge. In the nose fresh notes of flowers and tropical fruits. This wine reflects the terroir of Alentejo in its most honest form. This is a real terroir wine and is a nice glass gastronomically with refined fish such as dorade, tuna or grilled brill. Also a great wine that pairs perfectly with creamy sauces with rich fish dishes and mature cheeses.
